ICT for ‘hard-to-teach’ maths topics

Love this video – both because it provides practical ideas you can copy and also because it illustrates some of the tensions and divergences of opinion within maths teaching. In particular, it raises the issue of how much hand-calculating is necessary  – if any.  My personal opinion veers towards the ‘no hand calculation’ end of the spectrum as opposed to those teachers who claim that the skills of hand calculating are fundamental and should be learned by all. The second teacher was particularly adamant!
