It’s a holi-holiday!

Alter: 12 bis 16

Ziel:

Die SchülerInnen sollen einen Familienurlaub unter Zuhilfenahme von fremdsprachigem Material planen. Dabei sollen sie fremdsprachige Wörter und Phrasen sammeln.

Was gebraucht wird:

Vorgehensweise:

1. Rahmenhandlung, z. B.:

You’re planning to visit Scotland for 7 days in the Easter Holidays . Your parents have asked you to prepare the trip. They think it’s a good way to practise your English!

2. Die SchülerInnen sammeln mit Hilfe von Suchmaschinen, Wikipedia etc. Informationen zum Reiseziel (z. B. Hauptstadt, Bevölkerungszahl, höchster Berg etc.).

3. Die SchülerInnen entscheiden sich für eine Gegend / Region und begründen ihre Entscheidung, z. B.:

Now that you have found out some basic facts about Scotland, you should decide which parts of Scotland you want to visit (A Trip to Scotland – page 2).

Today many tourist boards have websites where you can get all kinds of information. The Official Site of Scotland’s National Tourist Board will help you to make a decision. Here you will find an interactive map of the different regions of Scotland. Have a look through the pages and then pick the two regions you like best. You can choose any region with the exception of Edinburgh.

Note down what’s special about the region and what you can see and do there (three items each). Use complete sentences.

Use the online dictionaries to look up the words you don’t know. Write down the new words on the last page of your handout.

4. Die SchülerInnen planen ihre Reise, suchen eine Unterkunft und berechnen die Kosten, z. B.:

As you want to visit two regions of Scotland, you also have to pick two places to stay (A Trip to Scotland – page 3). Again the Scottish Tourist Board will be helpful. You can have a look at different accomodations and decide which one you prefer.

This decision is very important for the success of the whole trip and everyone of your family should know where you’re going to stay. So please write down a short description of the accommodation in German.

Your parents will also want to know how much they have to pay for the trip. Keep in mind how many people you are and how long you will stay at each place.

Use the online dictionaries to look up the words you don’t know. Write down the new words on the last page of your handout.

5. Am Ende kann noch ein ‘Listening Comprehension’ mit eingebaut werden, z. B.:

The capital of Scotland is said to be one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. So it would be a shame not to visit Edinburgh. To make the most of your trip you should have an idea of what to see and do there before you arrive. Luckily, the Scottish Tourist Board offers a podcast which will take you on a tour of the city.

You can listen to the audio as often as you want to. Stop and skip back whenever you miss something that was said. Take your time and try to get as many information as possible.

Fill in the missing information on page four of your handout. You will have to use the internet to find the answers to some of the questions. The links on the right will help you.

Use the online dictionaries to look up the words you don’t know. Write down the new words on the last page of your handout.
