Music in the chemistry lesson

Mark Rosengarten has recorded a lot of chemistry tutorials and songs. My chemistry colleague’s favourite is the song “It’s a family thing”, a song that covers a list of organic molecules. She used it in the classroom at the end of the lesson and gave her students the link to use the song as a revision aid. She swears she heard students hum the song on an exam!

Maybe it’s an idea to let the students make a song about a chemistry topic using several tools:

  • Audio recorders like Audacity or GarageBand
  • Windows Live MovieMaker or iMovie
  • software to make stop motion movies (like MonkeyJam), for example with pictures of molecule models they made in class
  • PPT with speech (helloslide, Knovio)
