Need a break?

The students work for Best Britain Breaks and they are going to present one of the many wonderful destinations in the UK for a selected group of Belgian tourists. They work in pairs.

In their Best Britain Breaks episode they should provide the following information:

  • How to get there from Brussels
  • The location of the destination in the UK
  • How to explore the place
  • Places of interest with special focus on the interests of the tourists
  • Where to drink a cup of tea or coffee
  • Where to have lunch or dinner
  • Where to stay for the night

They can use different sites on the internet, especially the official tourism websites, to get as much interesting and useful information as possible. Tripadvisor and might come in handy too.

They have to take into account the background, special interests and especially the budget of the tourists they make the episode for, for instance:

Brighton: Trendy young couple, interested in night life and beach lovers, budget: average

Make sure you have plenty of destinations and target groups.

For their presentation of the ‘Best Britain Break’ the students create a PowerPoint with photos or maps, but no text. Instead they record a voice-over to tell their fellow students about the destination. Finally they export this presentation as a video file (just click File< Save and Send<Make a Video). The episode should take about 5 minutes.

The file format of the video will be .wmv, so convert if necessary.

You can put these video files on your class blog or website (if you don’t have one, you can just show them in class). This way you create a good opportunity for peer evaluation. Provide the students with a rubric to assess some or all of the presentations.

What do I need?

  • Internet access
  • Powerpoint 2010
  • A headset with microphone
  • A webcam (optional)
  • A video conversion tool like Freemake Video Converter or Any video converter (optional)
  • A class blog or website (optional)

Hints and tips

If you don’t use MS PowerPoint, you can use Open office or PDF documents and upload them in There the students can record the voice-over or (if a webcam is available) they can combine the presentation with a video recording.
