I believe that the use of animations and simulations, like those from PhET, enables the manipulation of parameters and variables in different combinations, and facilitates the questioning of some issues, the systematic study of the causal relationship between variables, the formulation of alternative hypotheses and basis for conclusions.
The exploration of a simulation on a specific field, in the classroom, are accompanied by guides operating on the assigned tasks, the topics to focus and the points to explore. The operating guidelines are typically built according to a rising complexity but also greater autonomy of students.
